Which should I get, UT 2k4, Battlefield: Vietnam, or Battlefield: 1942

BF1942: more strategic than UT and you can add Desert Combat for free (which most feel is a better "modern" combat game than BF:V).

I have gone back to playing BF1942 again to take a break from BF:V. BF1942 is a more mature product with a million mods and there are still many, many people to play against. It's just a great game that isn't hard to pick up and get seriously addicted to.
Unfortunately hardly any servers are hosting the expansion games so you may not wish to even bother with those. 🙁

i have em all.
UT 2k4 is my vote.

more replayability.

although you can get a second game for free with the DC mod and 1942. BFV is fun, but its third in this race.

Another for UT2k4 here.

BFV.

It is much better after its recent patches, and is getting more balancing and improved bot AI in a patch next week, that will also include a new map, and 2 new helicopters.

UT2k4 is great if you're a "twitchy" kind of gamer. You can be hit by a dozen whatevers from any direction at any moment, so you need to constantly be on the move.

1942 is great if you like WWII combat sims. You need to keep moving (of course) but it does a good job with most of the battles. 1942 also gets extra points for the Desert Combat mod, which is free and a excellent modern combat game.

BFV is good as a representation of the Vietnam war. It does give a new feel to the Battlefield series because it is fought where there's actually cover on the ground, rather than freshly cut grass like in 1942. I'd suggest you "try it" before you buy it, Desert Combat is somewhat better.

UT2k4

Nothing compares to running over someone with a scorpion, slicing their head off with a Manta, or using a nuclear missle launcher to annihilate a group of incoming Skarrj.

You will never get tired of UT2K4.

There are so many awesome mods/mod servers that will keep you entertained for days on end...errr hours on end for the normal people...
