USPS for anything I can fit into a 4.60 priority mail box, or an 8.95 flat rate priority box
USPS for media mail

UPS for everything else (10% off at UPS store)

FedEx when I need 2/3day air

FedEx. Simply because if I am not home, I can drive down to the station after 5:30pm and pick up the package.

With UPS, I have to call them to tell them to hold the package, then pick it up the next day.

(1) USPS Priority for low-value stuff that doesn't have a firm deadline & isn't too heavy.

(2) Fedex ground for very large/bulky stuff.

(3) Fedex Express for anything really important.

The only times I'll ever touch UPS is when its free or very cheap from Newegg.

I always use USPS to ship, but I've never really shipped anything larger than a motherboard before.

For receiving something, if I had to choose between UPS and Fedex, I'd pay a small premium for Fedex any day.

I like to use FedEx Ground for monitors and such.

For small to medium packages, I've used USPS flat rate box, priority, and even media mail to ship a lot of items with great success.

USPS is damn expensive :( Light packages are usually very low priced and shipping eats up the costs.

Fedex Ground for the savings. Kinkos all over here FTW (10% off for printing label online)

usps - you get free boxes :)

also, usps is the safest way to ship very important items - ship it registered - at that point it is literally signed out all steps of the way. many jewelers use usps registered because they know it is the safest form of transport, 2nd to armored carrier.

true but the rates are so usps rates so high that I would rather ship with Fedex ground for the assured tracking + $100 insurance.

Fedex Ground has a very stable infrastructure and constantly growing. UPS only gives you a good price if you have a contract. DHL is FTL infrastructure and Ground is deferred air.

10% off at UPS store is probably still over their drop off rates.

We have a national contract with DHL and have dropped UPS and FedEx...they are unbelievably cheap (I overnighted over 100lbs for less than $75 east to west coast).

The biggest plus is they haven't damaged a package yet. UPS was notorious for destroying anything we shipped to Mesa or California from here. The worst was 9 LCD's packed in 3 different boxes professionally by a UPS recommended store. All the boxes were visibly damaged and 4 of the monitors were DOA with major damage. Only 2 were blemish free. There were footprints on the boxes and definite kickthroughs. these were double boxed.

The claim was paid however. They did try to claim inadequate packaging though the first time.

DHL because they get it their the quickest and despite rampant complaints of their unreliability, I have had no problems.
UPS comes next although I don't really like them all that much
USPS cause priority flat rate isn't half bad.
Fedex last cause they suck gigantic nuts and hold your packages for weeks even if they could deliver it.

If you do volume shipments, then Fedex Ground is a great way to save money. We ship stone using this service and they can ship 30-40 lbs. items anywhere in the country for $8.00. Of course, you have to have the volume to get this negotiated rate.
