Hello all,

I'm ready to retire my Athlon xp2100+ and am wondering what is the recomended Sempron
processor for this board? Here is my current rig:

-ASUS A7N8X-X MB
-AMD Athlon XP 2100+(OC 1.7Ghz)
-Eagle all alum case ATX
-480W Generic power supply
-Corsair xms PC3200 DDR400 512 RAM
-Kingston Value Ram PC3200 DDR400 1 stick 512 RAM
-Sound Blaster LIVE! 5.1 sound card
-Nvidia TI4200 128Meg AGP video card(Over clocked)

Any advice would be much appreciated

-Eric

I would wait until the 64 bit semprons's are Available for sale in the us. According to
The Inquirer.net they are only selling in china at the moment. that way you would have 64 bit and a newer core sempron than an older core 64 bit Athlon like the 2800 aka(newcastle). And if you overclock you should be able to get better overclock's on the newer core vs the older core's

If you can't wait then get the 3300 it has more features than the 3100 like SSE2 and SSE3. The 3100 might have SSE2 but it don't show it on newegg.com so not 100% sure. But the 3300 has it for sure so go with that one !!!

It's a K7 Socket A motherboard.

I wouldn't upgrade. Keep the memory, case and sound card. Oh, and the PSU, too. Discard the rest and start over. How about an MSI K8N Neo2-Platinum and an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice?

If you want to keep the mobo... I wouldn't go the Sempron route. The way I see if you have two options for a processor upgrade.

1. You can get a higher end barton chip (3000+ - 3200+)
2. Or you can grab up a mobile 2400+ or 2500+ and overclock the crappola out of it (seeing as you are not too afraid of overclocking according to your sig.) Cheapest route.

oop's didn't see it was a socket-A board. If it sempron in socket-A go with the 3000 i Believe it is the fastest socket-A sempron if not get an Athlon XP 3000 or 3200+. or even one of the mobile athlon xp's i heard that they overclock well. If you want to overclock that is.

Thanks guys for the great advise yeah I think your right I need to kick the MB and chip and do a board and chip upgrade ok cool I guess for now I'll consider a xpmobile and oc the hell out of it whie I save for a nice 64bit mombo
