Hey, I have searched and have read many different reviews about the Sempron CPU's. Well, I'm a college student and I wanted to obtain a chip that would be the most bang-for-buck on the lowend. I have heard good things about the Sempron 2800+ but was wondering if you guys can confirm, or even throw in some other suggestions.

Btw, I will be overclocking to meet my quota so please take that into consideration (basically saying that it needs to be o/cable). Finally, I was wondering if I should just spend the extra and get a 939 Athlon 64?

Finally (I know, again... ), my specs of the computer that I want to build are as follows (After all the rebates and such, this system should come out to around ~$370, and I already have everything but the CPU and Mobo).

Sempron / AMD 64
Abit NV8 Socket 754 / Dunno...
2 x 512 Mushkin Value Ram
160 Gig Seagate HD
Visiontek X800
16X DVD-RW
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz S.C.
Antec 350W Power Supply

get 939 motherboard and then see if you can get a venice 3000+, those will oc very well. Your saying the system should come out to be $370, does that include the parts you already have or just the cpu and mobo.

includes the mobo and cpu.....and you already have all the other parts.......so how much do you have left to spend on the cpu and mobo

btw, i'm not sure if it is too late, but if you can, return the x800 Vanilla, your 9800XT would be better

The 9800XT crapped out :(. I got the X800 for $62 AR, and have so far spent about ~230$ in obtaining everything but the cpu and mobo. I am roughly trying to spend around 370$, meaning I have about 140$ for the cpu and mobo.

Well, I have narrowed it down to either the Sempron 2600 or 2800 (around 70$~). So I have another 70$ for the mobo. I have been reading though that the Nforce 3 chipset works the best with this cpu family, but I haven't been able to find one with PCIE... Know of any NForce 4 mobo's that overclock well?

Btw, thanks for the help. Greatly appreciated :D.

For socket 754, the Geforce 6100 chipset and Nforce 4-4X chipset have PCIe. For the 6100 get the Biostar board (either one). For the 4-4X, Abit NV8, Epox EP-8NPA7I or DFI nF4X Infinity.

I'm thinking about the DFI Infinity NF4-X... Hey, out of the Nforce 4 chipset motherboards, which one do you (and others) prefer?

Get the DFI Infinity and the 2800+. You will want the 256k l2 cache. 128k l2 hurts.

Agreed. The DFI NF4 s754 and 2800+ are your best match.
