Which Sempron 64 ?

Hi guys looking for a Sempron 64 for my brothers machine . With all the good overclocking results of the S64 , I can't really decide between the 2500 , 2600 and 2800

I will be using a MSI K8N Neo3-F motherboard and some Kingston DDR 400 and probably just using air cooling on the cpu


Anyone have suggestions ?
 
2800. The 2500's multiplier sucks like hell. Only the DFI can get above 300HTT on a fairly regular basis, and even then I think its limited to like 340. I would rather go with a cheaper mobo like the Chaintech NF3 250 or Epox NF3 250 than go with the DfI NF3 250 and a 2500.
 
don't pay extra for 64 bit Sempron. I have just bought 2 32bit Sempron and it turns out to have 64bit enabled.
 
2800+. It's got a higher multiplier than the 2500+ and will give you a greater chance of getting a high overclock. Whatever you do, make sure the one you choose has at least 256K of L2 cache. These CPUs have been shown to take a noticable performance hit once you go below 256k. If I can find the article where this is proven I'll post it for you.

Does this mostly apply to 64bit processing? It seems to me that except in particular applications that end up fitting/not fitting in L2 depending in the size, that it won't make much difference, or at least that the performance ratings and prices will roughly reflect that difference. Most of the reviews I've seen have suggested that the cache isn't a huge deal, which definitely contradicts my gut feeling that it would be, but I've also specifically wondered if cahce becomes more of a performance difference under a 64bit OS.

That just means the stock was replaced; newer semprons have 64bit enabled. I havne't looked around too much, but I've never even seen different prices for 32 and 64 bit semprons.

I also think the 32 bit sempron was a stupid idea from AMD and really canibalized one of their first-mover advantages over intel, but that's beside the point.
