Which SCSI Host?

Which of the following host adapters is best?

1. LSI U160 (http://www.lsilogic.com/products/stor_prod/hba/valueline/index.html)
2. Adaptec 29160 (http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/pr...C-29160&cat=/Technology/SCSI/SCSI+for+Servers)
3. Adaptec 29160LP (http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/pr...29160LP&cat=/Technology/SCSI/SCSI+for+Servers)

I'm going to take some of my Christmas Cash(TM) and take this SCSI thing for a spin. Right now, I'm only looking to have one Ultra160/m drive on the chain, but I'd like to be able to add more. Unless there's a sudden price drop in SCSI CD-RWs, I don't expect that I'll be attaching anything other than hard drives.

I only have 32bit, 33MHz slots, so 64bit won't be an advantage. I also don't foresee anything less than a 68-pin Ultra160 or better device on the chain.

I'd like to know what would probably be the better value and which one would be best irrelevant of cost. And, for the moment, let's pretend that these are my only choices 🙂

Both perform similarly. Go with the LSI as it's much cheaper.

See the sticky at the top of this forum - free LSI U160 host adapter with the purchase of certain drives at Hypermicro.com.

i got mine when storage review did this same thing and with xp no drivers needed

another vote for the lsi here

Let me see if I'm feeling this correctly...

LSI would be best value (yes, I'm aware of the Hypermicro deal).
One of the Adaptec cards would be best.

I can get deals on these which would make the Adaptec cards that I mentioned a little bit more expensive than the LSI. So what kind of difference in performance, useability, etc., are there?

Thanks!
