I am about to put a new sata2 hard drive on my Gigabtye DS3 as the main os drive but I got some question. I am download some driver ahead of time and find something wierd. This is going to be my only sata device, which slot should I put my hdd in? The orange or purple sataII slot? I will have other hard drive as well but this would be my only sata II device Another thing, is there anyway way for me to tell which version of the mb I got? 1.0, 2.0 or 3.3?

I'd go for an orange slot in the lowest numbered connector....maybe #1?

IDK about your revision number.

I don't think there is any diifference between each SATAII slot, but you can figure out your motherboard revision with CPU-Z, apparently my DS3L is an A2.

AFAIK there is no difference. Use whichever slots are most convenient.

I have three devices and they use SATA2 ports 4,5 & 6. 1 & 2 are blocked by my 8800GTX.

In some instances, motherboards will have SATA headers provided by more than one chip, e.g. 4 from the chipset + another two from an integrated controller. In those cases, the ports are often distinguished by color. In these sorts of cases, it can matter which port you plug in to, on chip might offer better performance than the other, or it might only be possible to RAID drives on the same controller.

With your motherboard, however, it doesn't seem to matter. It is something to watch out for in some cases, though. In http://www.viperlair.com/revie...mobo/gigabyte/965pdq6/ that case, for example, the purple connectors are driven by a secondary chip, and the orange ones are driven by the intel chipset. With this particular board, the difference matters a great deal; because the secondary controller is a JMicron part, which is a Bad Thing That Leads To Nothing But Grief if you use it.

Look at the board diagram in your manual. You'll see they are numbered. I put mine in the lowest number, but as mentioned several times above, it makes no difference.
