Which SATA option to use?

I have a gigabyte GA 8knxp motherboard that has the 875p chipset and a Sil3112. I just purchased a SATA drive and don't plan on using the Raid function. Which of these 2 SATA options would be better to use?

I have already set it up with the Sil3112, I was in a hurry and just plugged it into the first SATA port I saw. But now that I have more time to play with it I was curious if there is much of a diffrence between the 2.

Since I have already made the drive into a bootable windows disk can I change it now? I tried and windows wouldn't boot.

I can just leave it the way it is but I am curious.

Thanks,

Greg

You can. It shouldn't matter much. The performance is closed to each other. You have to set the BIOS to boot from the 875p if you're using that controller.

Theoretically, performance should be faster using the 875P (actually ICHRx) SATA ports, as the 3112 is limited by the PCI bus bandwidth. But realistically, considering you only have a single drive, it shouldn't matter much as you won't exceed the PCI bus bandwidth anyways.
