Which router to use as an AP and which as a Router

Currently I have an e2000 in the basment and an Asus RT-N66u on the first floor used as an access point which is connected to one of the ports on the E2000. Is this the correct way or should it be the other way around and why?

Thanks

It's probably best to use the router with the best transmitting specs as the router. By that I mean which can send signals on both 2.4 and 5 Ghz, or transmit b/g/n concurrently.
