I want to get a router for my @HOME cable service. Anyone have a sugestion that they know works with @HOME and its NAME requirements.

I am considering the D-LINK DI701 and the Hawking PN9225 Which looks like a good deal at BUY.COM, but I'm not real sure about the changeable name feature.

Thanks,

Klatu,

The Hawking Router is generally rated very slow from the reviews on the web (I haven't tried this one)

I'm on @home and I've tried 3 routers: Linksys BEFSR41, The SMC Baracade 4 port and the Netgear RT314 (Currently have). The Linksys router is very fast and very easy to set up but I had constant (1 to 3 times per day) disconnects that required a router reset with the reset button. The SMC router was solid but seemed very slow compared to the Linksys router. The Netgear router is a pain to set up and can be confusing, but the speed is very good and its been up for 6 weeks without as much as a hiccup, much less than a required reset. Very solid and I would recommend it on this fact alone. The setup interface and firmware update procedure suck, but the product is a better option than the other 2 for it's stability.

/Edit: The "Setup is a pain" for the Netgear RT314 is a comparison to the other 2 routers listed above which have a web page setup as compared to the Telnet setup of the Netgear. Some of the term's of the Netgear don't necessarily suggest a clear choice and the filter sets I haven't even begun to try to understand yet.
Good luck

I noticed on one of @Home's web pages that they are currently selling the Linksys router to their customers. I guess they've finally realized that routers are here to stay on their systems.

Agree, the Netgear311/314 work great. Setup was not a pain for me. Very simple. The SMC seems nice also with the built in print server.

I'm using a Switch just fine, though I am still tinkering around with it.

Netgear fs105.

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions.

I found a 'Cable Modem' site and they recommended the Linksys Router so I went with it. I've got it up and working fine so far. The biggest problem I had was the ICS on the host machine. I missed the part about disabling that before I try to configure the Router. I guess the Big BYTE in the Sky was watching me.After trying to get the router to let me connect to it for about 15 minutes, my house just lost power for a few seconds and when it came back on, I didn't start up the ICS machine. Of course I connected to the router instantly.

Now all is working fine.

I am also using a switch. I just got tired of having to have both computers on to use the net (the ICS machine was in my son's room).
I got the Router with 1 port and connected it to my Linksys Switch (BEFSR11).

Thanks again to ALL.

I personally use the LinkSys Router and so far I've been up for about a year without any reboots.. My main problem has been the Damn RCA @home box.. Had them switch out for the Motorola and works great. Also for people that are having problems with speed go to www.speedguide.net and go to their Cable/DSL section and use the patches for @home and the tweaks.. Helped the downloads by atleast 50KB.
