I'm having a hard time thinking of any that anyone will bother to listen to in 20 years, but here are my best guesses:

Green Day - Boulevard of Broken Dreams/Wake me when September ends
White Stripes - Icky Thump
and as much as I hate them,
The Killers - Mr Brightside/When you were young

99.9999999999% of the rock music released in the last 5 years was forgettable 20 seconds later.

Nope, 100% musical goodness in that list. Those songs will far outlast your pathetic, empty-lived, petty shrillnes. Nickelback, however, sucks.

Turn the clock back 20 years and listen to some of my favorites. I don't care what anyone else says, "music" isn't music anymore.

There is nothing. I think they got themselves a formula to make quick cash from quick-hits that the industry wants to keep.

Think back a little further and all of a sudden you have hundreds of songs that will most likely be played until the end of time.

And I'm relatively young being 26. Anything new that catches my attention is either a very slim style of scandinavian metal(Opeth for example) or game/movie soundtracks/instrumental..

Other than those, why make money/(music) the hard way when you can repeat a three-note progression for 4 minutes, make millions, then repeat? It's not about art anymore.

So to all the people that are just hating, I suppose you can make a better list? I think Icky Thump is a great song, but I don't think it has the makings of a classic.

The internet has kind of killed the "classics" idea, IMO. Everyone can have their tastes catered to and no one can really agree on what a "classic" is anymore.

I can think of quite a few songs that have been released in the past 5 years that I would not skip past if they showed up on Pandora or equivalent radio. (I do not listen to normal radio stations anymore)

Most of them are by artists like NIN, Live, Tool, Ratatat, Tom Waits. So just from that I bet there are several people here that hate any song by those artists, even if they have never heard the particular track. Bring on the music after 19xx is worthless crowd.

And thus it has been since like whenever. When I was going up, the baby boomers were forever bitching that no good music was made after 1970. Their parents hated that modern hippy garbage...

Thank you. I actually wondered if this was the case, it was just a generation thing and the attitudes have been the same, just that the means to get their hands on diverse music had changed.

Hell, maybe that is why so many great bands formed because they were sick of the music on the radio and didn't have the internet to steal music off of, and decided to make their own? Let's face it, this generation is lazier than the previous. (Another recurring theme, I'm sure)
