Which Ripjaws

Hi all - will be buying a SB "K" series either 2500k or 2600k in Jan. Buying a few items (PSU, etc) now on BF sales.

I jumped on a GSkill Ripjaws "super special" yesterday.....8gb (2x4gb) of 1600 DDR3 for $99. Also Egg has the same memory but in 1333 speed for $10 less.

Not sure I can change it now, but did I "waste" $10 or was it worth it to buy the "faster" memory?

I want to OC but only thru changing the multiplier, which I should be able to do on the K series.

Is the 1600 just better binned memory, or is it exactly the same but just labeled differently?

I doubt there's that much difference between 1333 vs 1600 in terms of performance. since the 2x00k series you can just change multiplier w/o even touching the ram timings, this fast vs slow memory will not effect your cpu upgrade. In my opinion it won't make much difference at all in you final build.

Yeah, now that I made the purchase, my hunch is I just spent a little extra for nothing. Oh well, not gonna beat myself up for $10. Live and learn. So much "marketing" behind all this RAM stuff.....makes one feel that if they arent getting CAS 7 and 2000 that they are shortchanging themselves somehow.

Maybe I can tell myself I got a better-binned RAM for only $10 more......

Thanks
