Here are 2 rigs im thinking about please pick which one you like better

Rig A) Prescott

CPU 560 (3.6 ghz 775)
MOBO Asus P5DA2 Premium 925x
video gigabyte gforce pcx 5900
soundblaster card
ram 1 gig of ram (corsair or crucial)
drives wd raptors drives (two 74 gig no raid)
case Chenbro Gaming Bomb II
drives Pioneer 108

Rig B) Northwood

CPU 3.4 ghz 478
MOBO Abit ICG-7 875
video EVGA G force 6800
soundblaster card
ram 1 gig of ram (corsair or crucial)
drives wd raptors drives (two 74 gig no raid)
case Chenbro Gaming Bomb II
drives Pioneer 108

Im not sure if im going to overclock probably not please give any suggestions

I'd go with the northwood rig. DDR2 is currently slower than DDR, and a geforce 6800 is much better than a pcx5900. Plus the northwood will run cooler, and 3.6ghz Prescotts are still hard to come by, and a bit overpriced.

Newegg has the 3.6 for $475.00 is there a big difference in performance in the 3.4 northwood vs 3.6 prescott? All i do is make dvd and video recording and very light gaming

ps stevty i notice you have 2 wd raptors would you know if i get the 74 gig version and dont use any raid do i still need to install raid drivers?

B, because I don't like Asus MBs. Two Raptors... You Swine 😉

BTW, I NEVER get tired of seeing This... 2 out of 1, you gotta love it! 😀

Clock for clock the prescott is slower than the northwood, so you would not see much of a performance gain with a 3.6ghz prescott, plus you'll be forced to use more expensive DDR-2 memory that is slower than current ddr, and the 6800 is a much better video card than a pcx5900. A single 74 gig raptor is faster than 2x36gig raptors in raid 0. You will still need to install the SATA drivers, or windows will not be able to see the SATA hard drive. You'll have to put them on a floppy disk and press F6 when prompted by the windows installation.

Since the 3400+ has been shown to beat a 3.4EE in gaming, I highly suggest looking into an A64.

(edit: d'oh, didn't see your other post--if you do get the 3.6, maybe get a 915 motherboard that uses regular DDR1; I'd still however choose the NW of the two, or still consider an A64--a 3400+ for S754 is $65 less than a 3.4C and will support 64-bit if/when encoding takes advantage of that capability (not an encoding person; sorry for any mindless crap I have just managed to spew))

Naustica does have a point there. 😱
I'll have to change my vote, but I'll have to change your components also...
My vote now goes for a P4 550 (3.4) $$$... 200MHz to save $197 is a good trade off. 😉
The MB I'd marry the Socket-T Prescott to is the DFI LanParty 875P-T. You can stay with an AGP card, DDR1 and still get great performance out of the 550. 😀

I agree with Naustica, but you might want to consider a large hard drive for what you intend on doing even if it means spending less on a vieo card (after all you did say "very light gaming").
