Just replaced my PNY Ti 500 with Sapphire 9700 Pro and just wondered which refresh rate fix everyone uses? Some choices are Rage 3D Tweak,Rivatuner,RefreshFix 0.9.9.7, Uncheck DDC information or reforce fix. Thanks

Reforce...works like a charm. Hmm didnt even realize rivatuner had that function now...should just use that then since i use it for overclocking my vid card.

He's asking about a Sapphire 9700 (ATi based card). rivatuner is for nVidia cards:
RivaTuner is the most powerful tweaking utility for NVIDIA display adapters running under Windows 98 / Windows 98 SE / Windows ME / Windows 2000 and Windows XP. The purpose of this utility is to give you access to all the undocumented features of the Detonator drivers.

I'd look at Rage3D tweak or at least go to the Rage3d Forums and find out what works the best on your particular card.

rivatuner is for nVidia cards:

You should have read a little further.....

Added ATI RV250 and ATI R300 GPUs support. Now RivaTuner can diagnose and overclock ATI RADEON 9000 Pro/9700/9700 Pro boards (thanks to Andrew Worobiew for testing RivaTuner with ATI RADEON 9000 Pro and ATI RADEON 9700 Pro).

The best just keeps getting better

Thanks everyone for your input. Guess I will give RivaTuner a try. That way I can try some overclocking also. Been playing Medal of Honor with all settings at max and am loving this card. This is my first ATI and I have not had one problem.

I don't know if I'm the only one who's noticed but ATI now includes a DirectX refresh rate fix in their control panel, no need for 3rd party software. Just go in Display Properties > Advanced > Displays > Monitor and set the DirectX Override Refresh rate to whatever you like (I've got it at 85 Hz). And people complain about ATI's drivers ;)

looks like rivatuner should change its name seeing how it isnt just for riva-based card anymore.

Okay listen up. Refresh rate override has been part of DirectX since 1978 dammit. Or a long time anyway. There is no need for external programs and you will just risk causing yourself grief. ATI has recently provided a third place to access the same old function (in addition to the original two). If you need an override for some obscure API like OpenGL for that one in a million game then I suppose one of these programs could be useful. :p

Refresh Force (ReForce), the universal utility that you only have to run once and it works on any video card. driver version or monitor.

If you're looking for something that works all the time in any situation and isn't memory resident, this is the one to use.

...unless you use TV Out in which case the resolution you use for it must be set to 60Hz. Since many folks run their desktop and/or games at the same res as their TV Out uses (1024x768), 'taint a perfect solution for everyone.

I use Radeonator Locker. I was using Refresh Force, but I like Locker better. It doesn't require a restart of the system to lock the refresh rates. The interface is a little nicer too.

refesh force doesnt require a restart either, all you have to to is change resolution once and it works from then on.

also, Auric, i play mostly opengl based games.

I've tried several things to get my refresh rate above 60Hz in Tribes 2 and other games. ReForce was no good, setting stuff in the ATi control panel was no good, DirectX forcing it with dxdiag was no good either. And I can't seem to edit my registry since the only instructions I've heard of are for win9x not 2000 (i can't find the file in the registry they talk about). I set my monitor down to 1024x768 and it still runs at 60Hz in some games.

I sure don't know what to do. I have to use vsync to prevent tearing too, which limits me to 60FPS max in the games affected by the problem.

ReForce was no good
Turn off "use DDC information" in the ATi driver control panel and also in the drivers manually set the highest resolution and refresh rate your monitor supports if they're not detecting it correctly.

i use rage3d tweak and the newest catalyst drivers from ati...

77hz@1600x1200
85hz+@1280x1024 and lower

1600x1200 looks sexy at 77hz...my eyes don't bleed after doing 8 hours of CAD anymore :)
