Have you even looked? There are loads of socket 1155 motherboards with PCI on them.

Maybe its just time to step up to a PCIe version, Sell the standard PCI audio and put it for the new one.

My board has a pci slot. It's one of the reasons I went with the "pro" over the "deluxe" model. Specs in sig.

There are actually a surprising amount of boards no longer coming with PCI slots. Seems like they are slowly but surely trying to phase it out like they did with IDE.

Really pisses me off.. why should I have to re-buy perfectly good sound cards, tv tuners, and wireless adapters? Its not like the pci-e versions will have superior performance or anything for this type of low bandwidth usage.

I'm with you on this opinion. Except I am glad IDE is dead and gone.

The reason they're phasing out is because tv-tuners/sound cards/ wireless adapters are all pretty much useless these days.

Still around, just not on budget boards.

Having them on high end board is stupid personally but they are a extra cost with it not being native to the chipset.

I haven't ever seen any 3rd party chipsets added on to boards with PCI slots. I'm pretty sure PCI is still native to the chipset and the decision to omit the slots is simply one of space. You only have room for so many slots and you have to pick PCI or PCIe

With IDE there was a performance loss, and the need for an DIE controller so it makes sense to get rid of it (in favor of SATA) but with PCI there is no loss in performance with low bandwith devices. PCI = PCIe X1, so its not like we gain anything, the X on PCi-e represents how many times faster it is than PCI.

The 1x thru 16x is not in relation to PCI

PCI is 133MBs total
PCIe 1x is 250MBs in each direction. And that's for pcie v1, v2 is double that and v3 is double that of v2

I have a PCI Xonar Essence ST and its far from useless. If I wanted to upgrade to a motherboard with no PCI slots then it would cost me an extra £160 for a PCIe version of this card. I can appreciate the need to push things forward but there are many expensive professional sound cards around where manufacturers do not offer PCIe versions of those cards.

The higher end Intel chipsets do not have native PCI controllers. Instead it uses a bridge chip to one of the PCIe lanes.

It's not just whether or not a motherboard has a PCI slot, take a look at the placement too. The board in my signature has a PCI slot that is useless to me as it's blocked by my video card.

I wanted to get a internal dual band wireless adapter but every one I looked at at the time was pci bases so I had to settle for a usb one.

When the hell did this happen?

Until TV tuners and wireless adapters are all built-in to our motherboards, that will not be the case.. we're not quite there yet.

.. and many of us enjoy our higher end and professional grade sound cards and have 0 reason to upgrade them. My PC outputs to studio monitors, do you have any idea how dull and lifeless onboard sound is on that type of equipment in comparison?

Well either way it doesn't really matter since you can get Z77 boards with PCI and they're not all that difficult to find.

Gigabyte Z77-D3H is another lower costs option that's gotten great reviews. I'm actually thinking of getting one with a used 2500k/2600k for a secondary low cost gaming machine.
