Which rear projection HDTV should i buy ?

2999 is expensive cuz i still need to get that extra warranty (at least 400$) and then those monster cables (200$) and the tax (15.025%). so the less is better.
Plus i want the best for the money, even if it's a bit smaller.

Well don't buy monster cables and save yourself $200. I bought Hitatchi when I went shopping. The reason why I didn't even look at Sony is because even the display model had horrible burn in.

Niether, I would get the Mitsubishii. I have a Sony right now and regret not spending the extra $500 and getting the Mit.

good call....especially since the toshiba that is shown is the theaterwide. If you are spending the money, shop around and find a deal on a mitsu...

a large electronics store here in michigan has the ws-55311 for $1799, cheaper than the toshiba, and a lot better set

For three grand I'd DEFINITELY be looking at a 55" Mitsubishi. Easily the best bang for the buck, esp. once it's properly calibrated. And, forget the Monster cables...way overpriced!

$3000 wont touch the Mits in Canada (those are Canadian prices).

And yeah, Monster cables are all hype.

In his price range I'd say his best bet is Hitachi.

Ah...didn't even notice that Justorq is from Quebec. My bad. I'm sure you still could, though.

55" Mits at HHGregg (w/o the built-in HDTV tuner) is only $1999 which is about $2766CAD. I'm sure something similar could be found up there or off the web.

nope can't find the mitsubishi's anywhere.
so this toshiba isn't good ?
burn in on these tv's shouldn't be that big of a problem. I was able to negotiate a deal with the salesman to bring down the price of the sony model to around 2350$ instead of 2800$ cuz the new models just came in and they still have a couple of last year's models. The new model has exactly the same specs and design as the old one. is this a good deal ?

get Hitatchi 51SWX20b

ive had it for a year playing xbox and watchnig dvds ...no burn in and as perfectly clear as day i got it...and the sound is also fantastic!@

Where did you see it? A retail store?

You can't judge a set from seeing it in some place like that. No telling what the moron salesmen or customers have done to the set.

man i dont have enough money to get that hitachi tho ... 🙁
why shouldn't i get the monster cables ?
do you mean that there won't be any difference in quality ?
so no one recommends the sony ?

Monster cables = WAY overpriced. Just get some nicely shielded, 75ohm cables.

And, Sony is overpriced, too, imo.

I finally bought the Hitachi 46F500 and it's great, but i watched some DVD's (Fight Club and LOTR TTT) on my progressive scan DVD player and there's still two black bars on top and on the botom of the picture even though my TV is widescreen. I put my TV aspect on 16:9 and my DVD is set on progressive scan. I'm using component cables. The picture looks a bit grainy too. Is it normal that the picture is still compressed or is there something else I should do ?

Thanks for your help

DVDs of movies that were filmed with a 1.85:1 aspect ratio will fill your widescreen TV. Many movies are filmed with wider ratios (for panamoric effect or special effects needs) and are 2.35:1. Ben Hur, I believe, was even 2.60:1. So, yes, there will still be quite a few films that will be 'letterboxed' on your widescreen set. Just be sure to get anamorphic DVDs (typically noted with 'Enhanced for Widescreen Televisions' printed on the back cover.) They will look the best on your set! 🙂

Also, some films just have a gritty feel to them. Either that was the way they were filmed or it was a bad transfer.

Grainy image - your SVM is on, your brightness and contrast are too high. Turn SVM off, contrast below middle, and adjust brightness so you can see detail in the darkets of dark scenes.
Lots of movies will still have black bars - 1.85 ratio movies will fill your screen, 2.35 will have small bars.

Look on the back of the DVD to find out the aspect ratio. Always buy wide screen movies from here on out.

Avoide anything that says "fullscreen" like the plague.

hopefully you didn't buy the monster cables, cuz that would have wasted your money. You WILL be able to tell the difference in quality when switching from composite cables to component cables, but you WON'T be able to tell the difference between a $10 component cable from partsexpress compared to a $90 Level 3 Monster Cable.
