ABiT-TH-7 II Raid.
I am putting together an RDRAM-P4 system, but I have never dealt with this type before. I do know it must be purchased in pairs. My question is: Is PC1066 workable on an PC800 MB? Regular SDRAM PC-133 is backwards compatible with PC-100, does the same hold for RDRAM?
I want use Samsung RDRAM-based on reviews.
I dont really want to OC'k PC800 to PC1066-I hear RDRAM is hot enough "normal"
I couldnt find what I was looking for at ABiT site--can someone help?
Thanks.

Good Question!

I do beleive you can use PC1066 in a PC800 system, because if you install a CPU thats running at 400FSB then the ram is only going to run at PC800 speeds. The only difference is the RDRAM speed.

Yes you may use PC1066 modules in the TH7-II, however, it will force you to use a 4x RD multiplier, whereas with PC800, you can use a 3x or 4x multiplier. The thing is with PC1066 modules in the TH7-II, in order to get a real nice memory bandwidth, you will be limited by the DRCG's on the board rather than the memory. The optimal CPU to be paired with the TH7-II is a low multiplier P4 so you can hit high FSB's with a 3x RD multiplier and get the best of both CPU speed and memory bandwidth. I'd say a 2.26b would be a wonderful choice for a TH7-II. Also, the memory of choice to do high FSB OC'ing with the TH7-II would have to be 16-device 256mb 45ns Samsung modules. These modules have been known to hit almost 150x4 (RAM limitation) and between 160-170x3 on average. 170+x3 if you are lucky. Another good choice for RAM is the 8-device 128mb 32ns Samsung modules. These have been known to hit around 150-160x4 (DRCG limitation).

Ask on if you have more queries about the TH7-II... The board is awesome!
NOTE: There have been in-depth discussions about the TH7-II, including what RAM to use, DRCG mods, optimal CPU, and other like discussions by people more knowledgable than myself in the ard Forums.
