I recently ordered an Alienware aurora 5500 system.

basic specs are

AMD athlon 4000+ processor
74gig 10k rpm HD
Geforce 7800 GTX video card
1GB Low-Latency Dual Channel DDR PC-3200 at 400MHz
X-Fi 7.1 surround sound card

For cooling I went with their liquid cooling system.

In the time since I've placed my order I've come to the conclusion that I wish to upgrade the ram when it arrives. I would like to remove the current ram and go with a 2gig kit since most people recommend only using 2 of the dimm slots.

I've been trying to educate myself as much as possible on various forums so I make an informed decision about which ram to purchase.

When checking alienwares site im not finding exact information about the motherboards they use. The information they give me about the computer I purchased is that it is a Alienware® nForce?4 SLI? Chipset Motherboard PCI Express

When looking at pictures on their site of the motherboard you can see the ASUS logo present.

I was looking up prices on newegg for corsair xms ram kits and there are quite a few different selections of speed and voltage.

Would anyone happen to have any recommendations of a good corsair xms 2 gig kit to use for the correct volatage and speed? I do apologize for the newbishness of my post, I am still learning.

Thank you kindly for any help and opinions.

EDIT: Was also told to possibly look into OCZ ram like product http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227210

any opinions?

Thank you for the reply.

That product you linked is exactly the set of ram I was looking at.

So am I correct in assuming that its better to remove the current set of 512 dimms and replace with 2 1gig dimms instead of just adding another 2x 512?

Also was looking into http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820227210

This ram runs at a different speed than the corsair xms and are pretty much identical in price. How different are they in performance?

So do the experts have any opinions on OCZ at 2-3-2-5 at 2.6v versus the Corsair XMS at 2-3-3-6 at 2.75v

The prices are pretty much identical.

Which would be the better upgrade for my new system?

Thank you very much =)
