I am in the process of building a new system the components are as follows. P4 550 3.4 ghz 800mhz FSB socket 775 on a intel d915pbl motherboard with 2 seagate sata 160gb ncq drives and a ati x700 graphics card. My question is which ram to use? I am looking at 2x 256 kingston pc4200 533mhz latency3-3-3-3 or 2x 256 kingston pc5400 675mhz ram with a 4-4-4-4 latency. Is it better to have ram with less bandwith but faster latency or ram with more bandwith but a slower latency? I would like to eventually have 1gb but dont have the budget right now.

First, you want to have 1GB. DDR2 is'nt really any faster than DDR, anyway. Secondly, I would reccomend an A64 over the P4-a Winchester 3000+ can outperform the P4 3.4 at some tasks, and it's about half the price. Intel motherboards are crappy, too-Get an ASUS or ABIT, as they tend to run a bit faster, if nothing else.

I dont use any 64bit software and ive already gone with intel, but that still didnt answer my question of which ram would be better to use.

For the card that you mentioned DDR1 is a little faster and a lot cheaper You could get DDR1 with 2-5-2-2- for the same or cheaper than DDR2 and I beliece you well be a happy man I swear to god these guys work for AMD

This motherboard doesnt support ddr1 so I have to use DDR2, but if it did I would definetly have gone with that

Go with whichever is less expensive, you won't likely be able to adjust timings, or take advantage of the higher clocked ram, since it is an Intel board. They limit most of the performance settings, and generaly prevent any chance of overclocking.
