a basic question, which has proven to be the better one for the P4 system ???
the prices arent that much different now & building a P4 system for me mate, which RAM should i go for ??

i am not that familiar with Intel, only really ever dealt with AMD.

Hello! RDRAM will give you more bandwidth at default clock speeds. However, people have been able to overclock higher with DDR than RDRAM. If overclocking is not a concern with you, RDRAM may be what you want to go with.

A couple motherboards of suggestion; if you get RDRAM, I would recommend the Asus P4T-E, but if you go with DDR, I suggest the Asus P4B266 (Intel i845D) or the Asus P4S533 (SiS). I tend to prefer the Intel chipsets just so I can sleep better at night, but the SiS has definitely been proven time and time again to be a worth opponent against Intel's own.

May the power be with you! 😉 😀

the dude is still running a P200
so he needs something that will still be around in 5 yrs (not one to upgrade often u see)

i heard RAMBUS is bring out their new RAM (800??)
so i guess thats a good sign the court cases havent brought them down.

for the longevity & dont worry about o/c , its RAMBUS hey ???

not really. I have heard of people ovkerclocking to 160+ fsb on RDRAM mobos as well. mostly with Abit Th7-2. You have to set the RDRAM to 3:4 ration though. And even with this option the RDRAM based platform will outperform the DDR based platform.
I personally had a Th7-2 and 1.6a which would go to 2.4 ghz (150 fsb, rdram at PC900). I thought DDR would help me get a higher overclock so got a P4B266-c and samsung PC2700.. I still can't go beyond 2.4ghz so it is probably the cpu limitation. Now only if I can get a cpu like Thugsrook has!!

BTW, my rdram based platform was much faster (in benchmarks!!) than ddr.
