Hi all,
I recently built a new system based on the Q6600. I am using Transcend RAM DDR2-800 (5-5-5-12) - model no - JM2GDDR2-8K. I have overclocked the system to 3GHz and all is stable, but since I am running a 1:1 ratio the ram is running slower at approx 667Ghz.
Is it worth doing either of the following:
1. running at a 4:5 ratio so the RAM runs at 800GHz
2. staying at 1:1 ratio with RAM at 667 and changing the latency to 4-4-4-12 1t. The RAM voltage is 1.8v. If I keep the voltage this low with lower timings, what is the best way to confirm whether or not the system is stable. Is it just whether or not it boots ok or should I run memtest for example?
Or is it just best to leave it as is.
The ambient temps here get super crazy in the summer (up to 38c a couple of weeks ago) so I have no plans to overclock the cpu any higher than 3GHz as I dont want to increase system heat. As such I also want to keep the RAM voltage down for the same reasons, hence wanting to keep it at 1.8v if possible. On Newegg in the reviews people have said they have run with latencies of 4-4-4-12 but with voltage or 1.9-1.95. I changed the timings briefly to 4-4-4-12 1t and the sytem booted fine with a ram voltage of 1.8v, but I wasnt sure how to confirm RAM stability so set them back to 5-5-5-12.
Thanks in advance for any guidance.
