Which ram choice would be faster/more stable?

Trying to find out which ram, 2 x 256 DDR Mushkin 2-2-2 or 1 x 512 DDR Mushkin 2-3-3 , would perform the best. I understand the 2-2-2 would be faster but doesn't it slow down/have more trouble when using additional slots? Also I have read some mbs have issues with a 512mb stick. Any experience with this or advice is most appreciated. The mb is a Gigabyte GA-7DX and will be running WinXP pro and Win98se in dual boot, don't quite trust XP entirely yet as some progs don't work.

From what I have seen/heard 2X256MB is equal to one 512MB stick of ram, I have never heard of one being slower. The part where 512 is better is that you can upgrade more in the future depending on you max ram for your mobo and ram slots you have. The mushkin 222 is going to be faster and usually higher quality then the 233, but the cost isn't always worth the end result. If you are not an overclocking then you will not notice to much of a difference. Either choice you make will not be a bad one.

The issue with the 512MB of ram is that some board can not take that high amount of ram, but your board can take up to 4GB which means that you can use 512.
