The stock reatail CPU fan on my Athlon XP 1500+ is making rattling noises, so I want to replace it. Can anyone say which is the best quiet fan/heatsink choice from Newegg? I don't overclock, just want quiet and reliability. Thanks!

60x60x15 fan ..range about 4500rpm ..but it is possible to do a different HSF..staying stock..grab a GC68/9 from svc ..what mobo..? <edit> if you were local to me I'd give you a 60x60x25 fan for $2 ..

I was going to say the same exact thing. The nmb fans are very very quiet and do fine with an sk7.

I agree ...but an xp1500+ stock..? the GC68/9 series will do fine for under $10..oops...1800+ @ 2000+..w/GC68(bought for $5 and then lapped to remove that funny clear) stock fan(80mm0 spinning at 2446 rpm cpu temp at 35c ..case fan 80mm Sunon(not hooked up),GF4ti4200 spinner, and the psu's 80mm that is all.but my next upgrade..😉

a bit expensive but it's the best quiet cooler on the market if you ask me. and you can pick it up at your local compusa.

oh btw, it is a zalman that's been rebadged under the compusa exclusive PC Toys label.

I went with the CNPS 3100+. It's great, really quiet, and was easy to install. Now I'm getting the Zalman Northbridge heatsink to replace the noisy fan on the motherboard.

The best cooler on the market is definately the Swiftech MCX462PLUS or Thermalright SLK900

Or you can get a Vantec C7040. It is the quietest I have seen, cools great, and will work when you upgrade to a faster cpu.

I have a Zalman 6000Cu heatsink (you know...the flower looking one) and one slow spinning 92mm Papst fan which cools the CPU and the heatsink which is also passively cooled. My GPU fan is the loudest thing in my case.
