Which PSU?

Hi,

I'm finally gathering my parts together and the last thing on my checklist is the PSU- I simply don't know which one to choose, as I'm slightly tight on my budget.

Intel E6750
Evga Geforce 8800 GTS 640MB
Gigabyte GA P35C DS3R
2GB OCZ 800mhz
WD Caviar 320GB 16mb 7200
20xDVDRW

Could anyone please recommend a cheap PSU that's reliable and fairly quiet ?

Please tell me you didn't order the ocz ram yet. There is a thread here about OCZ not being that great. I recommend getting the Crucial Balistix ddr2-800 at egg for 63 dollars after rebate. Oh and that PSU is a very good one.

Spend the extra 15 for the additional power if you're trying to future proof....although it would take more than you have listed to stress the VX450. Some suspect the VX450 could even run dual 8800GTS but I'd go with the 550 if you plan on doing that down the road.

The Antec EarthWatts PSU's have gotten lots of praise recently for their Seasonic roots and 80Plus certifications as well. These are just as good and can be found for 30-40 bucks cheaper after rebates.

I have a very similar set up as you do and The Corsair VX450 runs it without an issue. They also have excellent customer service and a great warranty plan in case something goes wrong. Go with the 550 if you want headroom for upgrades or the HX520 if you want a modular set up.

OT: Why are you going with the 640MB GTS? The 320MB version is ~$80 cheaper and has very similar performance except when running at the highest of resolutions. Also, if you are looking for am inexpensive, quality case I'd reccomend something from CoolerMaster's Centurion line. I got mine for $40 after rebate and its been incredible. Good build quality, it came with 2 120mm fans, easy tool-free drive installation, and it's easy on the eyes.
