Which PSU?

It has been a few years since I built up a system, the last one I built was with my brother.

So, with my new system, I have the choice of a sightly used 1000W OCZ Fatal1ty PSU, or a new Coolermaster Elite 460W PSU.

Th
is is for my home office computer, and I don't want it running hot and warming up my office, so I am thinking using the 460W.

I am going to use an Asrock Z77 motherboard, Intel 2600k i7 CPU, 8GB of ram and a Visiontek HD 7850 2GB graphics card, DVD drive and Creative Soundcore 3D sound card.

It seems like 460W should be enough for this system, since I will not be overclocking.

Does the 1000W make more heat then a 460W PSU?

Which should I use?

The 1000W PSU is only going to draw as much power as it needs from the wall, so the amount of heat it creates has more to do with its efficiency than its rated wattage.

I would echo TemjinGold's question though. I don't understand why those are your only choices. And how much would you be paying for them?

I got these through friends, but another friend wants which ever one I don't, so I am just trying to figure out which PSU to keep.

I would rather have the new PSU (460 Watt), but if it isn't enough power then I would keep the used 1000W.

What do you think, is 460W enough for the system I am planning?

While the CM unit is new, I'm not trusty of any PSUs that CM has to offer. They have a bad track record and I don't see any improvement in the quality of their lower end PSUs. While both will suffice for your needs but given a choice, get the 1000W unit and brush off some of the dust and use it.

Sounds logical, didn't know CM had issues, but I would rather not risk it, so I will keep the 1000W.

You got them free, so don't worry about it.
Flip a coin and install the winner. When that PS eventually lays down on you, buy a good quality unit.
