My configuration for the new build is

Core 2 Extreme QX9650
Asus Maximus Formula
Corsair Dominator PC2-8888 2GB (1GB*2)
Asus 8800GT 512 MB
Seagate 500GB 7200.11
2 x Sata DVD-RW
Gigabyte 3d Aurora 570

No overclocking as of now (for an year or so)
No liquid cooling

I have shortlisted a few models
1. Antec True Power Trio TP3-650W
2. Cooler master Real Power M620
3. Cooler master Extreme Power 650W
4. Corsair HX620 (its too pricey here mate, in INDIA, keep this as the last choice in mind)
5. Corsair VX650W
6. Antec Neo Power 600W
7. Tagan TG700-U88 BZ (not sure about the brand, haven't heard it before)
8. Tagan TG600-U33 2FORCE

These are the ones that come inside my budget.... and the ones that are available in India by the way....

Please suggest a good one... if u want to suggest one thats not on the list, i would find out if it is available, but also suggest one thats from this list apart from your own suggestion....

Thanks in advance

Personally I would go with any of the Corsair and the Antec neo Power is a good unit also!
Tagen is a mixed bag.....
Tagen is trying hard to make a name for itself but IMO its way too soon to jump on the Tagen bandwagon!!

Peace!!

You're not. Not sure where you got your numbers from, but you only have ONE 8800GT and ONE hard drive. If we were talking FSP, Tagan, Acbel, etc., then I'd say a good 600W. But the Corsair is rated at continuous at 50°C and has most of it's power on the +12V. So I'm going to say that they HX520W is more than adequate and that you'll be typically under 60%.

Steer clear of the CoolerMaster Extreme series. That's for extremely bad, while the CM "Real" series has actual real power, but cost must more.

The Corsair is the best from your list. Then Antec, then CM Real power. Tagan's would be my last choice. CM Extreme...not!

Why do u say the Extreme series is bad? Anyways i thot it wud be good b ecoz of a brandvalue... thanks for the tip... Antec tp3-650 or tx650 corsair... antec model is modular... would look easy on the eyes inside the PC... but still in a doubt... or the HX620? lesser wattage but its absolutely worth right?

LoL the extreme series are seventeam OEM psu's, nothing wrong with them, if you know they are rated at 25c continous, and not 50c continous. So a 650w CM extreme can only really put out 500-550w under load. But nothing wrong with the qaulity of those units. And Bharatwaja, as jonnyguru stated, you would be fine with a 520hx, most of the time your rig won't be pulling more then 200-250w. And that Corsair 520hx could easily handle continous loads of 400w if need be, which your rig won't ever do.

So you don't believe me that the HX520W would still be more than enough for you?

I think it has more to do with the fact that a lot of people are hung up on wattage.

bharatwaja, neither the TP3 or the Corsair TX are modular.

I read a few reviews with horror stories about the CM Extreme. Not working, shutting down at moderate loads, catching fire, ect. Of all the dozens of makes available this would be one I would avoid (despite their generous discounts and mir). You might as well buy a $19.99 case with a 450w ps included. Not to condem CoolerMaster as their "Realpower" series are much better.

You should go with the HX520 and call it a day. Or go with the VX550! No reason why you should need it rather than the VX650.

Hmz interesting, I guess I should screw open my coolermaster again and look for the UL #, if that's what it's called and look it up :p But perhaps all 650w extreme units are seventeam OEM's btw ? But it's a non issue, right now even I would pick a Corsair over my coolermaster anytime of the day. Especially for the rig hes building.

Definitely agree that a lot of people are hung up on having wattage OVERKILL

I've got a 520HX myself, couldn't recommend a better unit for the price.

over 50A combined on 3x 12V rails

up to 85% efficient

great reviews,

SLI capable

Modular

Quiet

Cool

you could even get away with a vx450 or antec earthwatts 430 if price is a concern.

Personally I'm staring at the combination of the 1 graphics card and no overclocking and thinking, WILL NEVER HIT OVER 300W at maximum load over and over in my head. Your system is pretty low end in power honestly, sure it's high end components, but not only are you getting a 45nm core 2 quad, but one of the more efficient high end video cards. Any 450W or 500W is way more than enough.

I agree, get a corsair PSU and never look back. A VX550will do perfectly, although you could go with a HX520 if you wish. Your choice, they both have very similar +12 volt rail ratings. I own a VX450.

Modular PSUs have cables you can detach from the PSU if you don't need them for anything. It helps reduce case clutter.
