I have a 486SX w/ 16 megs of ram sitting around that I could put into service ;). What would be the best thing to run on it? Right now it has Windows 95 OSR1 on it.

Thanks! :)

Nothing. I had a bunch of 486s and low end Pentium, too, and no project has timelines that allow. Plus the 486SX doesn't even have a math coprocessor. It's sad, but time for the recycle bin.

Able to run Dnetc RC-72 project. If install Windows NT4, crunching performance will improve.

But doing all these setup probably just wasting your time & energy.

I remember I tried running RC-72 on it, but it was pretty brutally slow. I don't think I can install NT4 on there easily since the NIC is a pnp isa. Too bad it's pretty much useless :(. I tried putting another NIC in there to turn it into a router, but I can't get two of them to be recognized no matter what I do. I should setup my K6-2 400 though, I think it does a seti unit a day ;)

You might try sieving for Seventeen or Bust. But the electricity probably isn't worth it for running anything. :(

It might do one SETI work unit a week or something. :S

I think I remember a 486dx taking over a month for seti so I don't think that would even work for it.

Not worth the power, my friend, unless it's already a router/firewall.
