Which Processor?

I'm finally getting the pieces for my computer put together and I'm down to the last piece, the CPU. Here are the pieces I currently have

Motherboard: Asus A7N8X Deluxe
Graphics: ATI 9700 Pro
Memory: Corsair PC3200 XMS 512mb
HD: Seagate Baracuda 80GB 7200rpm
HSF: Thermaltake Volcano 9
PS: Sparkle 400watt

And I plan on putting either the cd burner or DVD player from my current computer into this one.

I had my eye on the 1600+ agoia chip from Newegg but I keep second guessing myself because I'm not 100% sure. What I want to be able to do is overclock and get the best speed for the money. Right now I have the whole computer and hardware at under $900.00usd. I want to keep the price of the computer under $1,000.00usd so it's anywhere from the 1600+ agoia chip up to at MOST the 2100+.

Does anyone have any pros or cons of any of the cpu's from the 1600 - 2100+?

You have a nice system picked out there. I bought a AMD Tbred 1700+ and a volcano 9 from newegg about a week ago and so far i have been able to overclock it very well. Right now i have it running at 10.5x166 = 1750 with a vcore of 1.525. And right now with the volcano 9 it is hat 36 C at full load. I am not running the fan at the most rpm's either because the fan is way too loud. I havent really pushed it very hard, I am sure it could go higher though if i push the voltage up more. I think as long as you get a tbred you should be good to overclock. I think the 1700+ is a good buy because it is only around 50 bucks. You really cant beat that.

I think if you go with the 1600, then you will be getting the old 0.18u palomino, which is the previous generation....and from what I understand, the palomino core had a speed limit, where as if you get the new 0.13u T-bred processor, they should OC a bit higher....or you can get the new one(i.e 333mhz bus one) which will cost you more, but you will be able to get much oc out of it....plus I think your mobo can unlock the multiplyer(without any modification on the CPU) on those new revision B T-bred CPUs.....just my $0.02

for your budget i would look into xp1700+ or xp1800+ Tbred cpu's

they seem to be getting to 1.8-2.0ghz and thats a very good deal imo

if you can maybe come up iwth some extra cash, i would look into xp2400+, otherwise xp1700+/xp1800+ tbreds are the wayto go
