Which printer (hp 1018, Brother HL-2040, mp-600, ip4300)

I'm thinking about getting a printer - which of these four (or a similar one?) would you recommend:

hp 1018, brother hl-2070,
canon mp600 or ip4300

I realize that two are ink jets and 2 laser - the hp 1018 is $65 and the mp600 is $150.

ack the market changes faster than i can keep up. Now there seems to be an mp530 and an mp800 as well as the new hp deskjet d7360 - sigh and the samsung laser printer seems to be pretty nice.

I *think* the mp600 and ip4300 have the same engine. I'm a bit toss between the higher quality of the laser and the ability to print colour with the inkjet. Not sure which of the two lasers is better. Also not sure if the mp600 is ok with photos (but should be if it has the same engine as the ip4300?). I wish one of these would work via ethernet rather than usb.

My interest in this is that a few of these printers were on sale this weekend and there is no tax in ma (I've been thinking about getting a printer for a couple of years).

If you do not need color I have been very happy with my HL2040 you can pick them up on sale for $60-70 and new oe toner is $45 or so at Amazon.

I can't recommend one over the other since I've not tested them all, I'd say that my LaserJet 1018 has been a very reliable and sexy printer to own. It handles paper very well, the output is outstanding and for the price, it's hard to beat. Toner is reasonably priced as well.

HP has released 32 bit vista drivers for it, too, so that's nice.

I have had the chance to use an HP 1000, 1018 and 1020 over the years. They are all excellent and a darn good deal for your money. They average a penny a page.

Not sure about the other models. They could be OK.
