Which power supplies for $50 each?

Hi guys,

To make a long story short, I just had a relatively new 350w Silverstone Strider power supply die on me today (13.78v measured on the 12v rail with two separate multimeters, AND a funny noise coming from the unit... probably a bad cap 🙁). That was the last straw, so I'm upgrading the power supplies in two computers both at once.

The computers' specs are pretty basic. Each has a dual core processor, single hard drive, optical drive, and a few fans. One is using a 6800 GT and the other as integrated graphics. Both computers have the potential of being used for light / medium gaming later on, so a mid range card may be added at some point. I'd like to at least get a PSU that can handle an HD 5750 or something similar, if need be.

With that said, what's my best bet for around $50? I'm looking at the Antec Earthwatts 430D and the Corsair 400CX. There's also this BFG 550w and several 300-350w Seasonics around that price.

Do not buy pc power & cooling for your system. Overpriced and too loud for your needs.

And honestly all of the choices you mentioned are fine for your needs. All of them are at least decent power supplies.

Well Jediyoda's been banned in all other power supply forums such as Hardocp and jonnyguru. This is the last one he can troll in.

Two Antec EarthWatts 430D's should be arriving today. I Google'd for some quick reviews, but couldn't find much except for the higher wattage units. The primary complaints seem to be the lack of supplied power cords, and since I have at least half a dozen sitting around, I'm not worried.

I hope they live up to the reputation the previous (Seasonic?) EarthWatts had. These probably won't be replaced for 3-5 years.

Ya no kidding. I just built a computer recently with a 430D actually. It seems pretty promising from what I've heard and read at least.
