I'm trying to set up a remote desktop connection in XP Pro with a SMC Barricade 7004ABR router. Anyone have an idea on which port I need to forward on the public and private side? I read something about UDP 3389. Does that go the same for both the public and the private? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I have the same router as you. Just setup a virtual server on port 3389. That way you don't have to worry about incoming and outgoing ports in the Special AP area. That is how I have it setup. Another hint. If you ever had more than one computer behind the router that you want to be able to connect to remoting, there is a registry setting that you can change the port so that would allow you to setup multiple computers so you can remote into. Then on the client you type in the IPADDRESS: PORT

:)

Thanks CodeWiz. So I set up the same port for private and public in the Virtual Server page right? For example: 192.168.2.xxx (private) 3389, (public) 3389? I didn't enter anything into the Special App page. I have that article on how to change the port...so it's cool.

Thanks for your help CodeWiz. I am able to connect to it, but it's weird. It says Windows 2000 Advanced Server instead of XP Pro  I try to enter my user name and password but I keep getting password incorrect. I went into MMC yesterday and disabled the authentication. Damn! Need to try harder...:p
