and cactus succulents

not sure which path to take, i'd like to only do one, just to do it, not for monetary gain, only for passion. If i do more than one kind of plant, i might neglect one or the other, If i do one kind of plant, i can efficiently tend to them. Or should i do both?

It would also look nice around my frog aquarium

I would buy grown plants as well try to grow by seed

thoughts or tips from horticulture experts?

Couldn't care less if they don't have any medicinal value or not btw

I grew a blue spruce indoors over the winter once. All went well until I put it outside in summer and a cat peed in it. Long story short keep indoor plants indoors. 😛

I want to build a better grow box and try it again, this one was just cardboard, so it was not insulated enough. Need lot of heat for initial germination for most plants.

You can find more details on growing trees indoors on the /r/trees subreddit.

Cacti and succulents are replacing lawns out here for great water savings. I really like the looks of gardens like this, and a miniature one indoors would be cool.

Skip the Croton they can get large even indoors and then require supplemental lighting.
Cactii and succulents are a better choice for someone who is just getting into indoor gardening. They require little care and do well in a low to medium light setting.

Unless you live in a cave, why would you need artificial lighting for either? Both are common as houseplants.

i kinda do live in a cave. electricity here is subsidized, so i would just need to buy a grow light fixture

gonna go with a 320 watt metal halide, prob the smallest size for MH's

MH sucks up electricity, are hot, and thus makes your AC work harder. LED grow lights are cheap now even the weed dudes are going all LED for indoor. Plus they make LED Bulb replacements for Halide setups.

But I would get a dedicated all LEDs down setup.
