My nokia is dying (no sound, no battery life left) and I need a replacement. Contract is up in 3 months and I'm just using a backup phone right now. The tmobile mytouch 3g looks really nice. I found a 5800-xpressmusic on a deal site for $200, though. I basically just want a phone that plays music, has apps and is reasonably cheap. The xpressmusic doesn't seem bad, but I'm weary on getting another nokia.

No Iphone... I'm probably gonna stay with tmobile.

You should be able to convince them to let you get the full upgrade discount as if your contract is expired... the website might not let you but a CSR rep or a store rep should be able to give you the full discount.

The big advantage the Xpressmusic has over the MyTouch is that T-Mobile won't require a data plan with it. Although if you want a data plan anyway, this may not be an issue.

Another option is the T-Mobile Shadow - Windows Mobile apps, plays music, surf the internet, has Wifi. Much cheaper than the two you are listing. Or a Blackberry - like the Pearl or Curve...

Well, you could get an unlocked 1st gen iPhone... I used one of these on T-Mobile for almost two years and it worked great. You can get a 4GB unlocked iPhone on Ebay for ~$150...

The MyTouch 3G also has one of the highest radiation levels of any cell phone, just an FYI if you can about that sort of thing.
