Alrighty, im sick of my Audiovox 5600. While there are indeed many things about it, the negatives right now outweigh the positives.
I purchased it new from AT&T around sept/oct 04 and expeditiously unlocked it. While it was great at first, i've grown unhappy about a few things.
#1: Reception. Its a cold day in hell when calls arent either a) dropped or b) connected where one party can't hear the other. Not kidding, this happens at least 1-2 times a day. The signal also fluctuates like crazy. One second, 5 bars, next second none, 10 seconds later 5 bars.... Even when i'm stationary.
#2. Battery Life. I guess being a year old the battery is fairly worn, but i am lucky to get 48 hours standby on the phone (maybe talking 10 or so minutes a day). On the 3rd day, the phone dies. I have a Samsung C207 as a backup phone, it lasts roughly 1.5 weeks on a charge. If i actually talk more than 1 hour on the phone, it will die the same night i charged it.
#3. Crashing. Every so often (once every 1-2 weeks maybe), the phone gets an error here and there. Unfortunately, it always seems to happen when im answering the phone. Either i get 'Error: Unable to answer call' or the phone just freezes, requiring me to pull the battery and reboot.
#4. Speed. Slighly petty, but its annoying for a phone to take 1-2 minutes to boot. My C207 (although highly less sophisticated) takes all of 5-10 seconds before im ready to make a call. The 5600, well over 1 minute.
#5. Camera. Its fairly well established that the 5600 has nearly the worst camera i've seen to date (short of the SE T637 which i owned for a whopping 2 months). While i definately don't take that many pictures, it would be handy to be able to actually be able to discern what i am taking a picture of when i'm looking through my photos. I have a Nikon D70, so its obviously not going to be my main concern, but its handy to have a decent shooter in your pocket.
#6. Dust. What flipping moron designed this phone. Its like the thing is a vacuum cleaner and sucks up any morsel of dust it can find. I've cleaned it a few times and 2 weeks later everytime, its back.
In turn, this is what i would like my new phone to have;
1) Excellent Reception
2) Excellent Battery Life
3) Good Camera
4) Ability to sync calendars and contacts w/ both OSX and XP
5) Small Formfactor
6) Fast Internet (anything faster than what i have now)
7) Clear and Sharp screen (like the new samsungs that look amazing)
8) At least tri-band
9) Excellent Build Quality (i.e. Sturdy and NO DUST UNDER THE SCREEN)
10) Voice Dialing Capability
11) Bluetooth
12) Ability to check POP3 email accts (very impt but i'm too lazy to re-number)
This now brings me to my ultimate question, which phone should i go for? Slvr L7 or Cingular 2125?
Personally, i prefer the look of the Slvr L7. I always admired the RAZR and thought i would love to have a candybar style version. However, i worry that in switching to the SLVR, i may give up more than i bargained for coming from a smartphone. I do throughly enjoy having my appts show up on the main display, and the smartphone's dialing is a joy (enter 954 and all contacts from the 954 area code show up), but i worry WM2005 will have the same issues i had w/ WM2003. Also, my 5600 does a superb job w/ bluetooth on my Jabra headset, never has problems connecting up and the signal is always strong and clear. I dunno what to do.
What do you all think i should go for?
