windows xp doesnt recognize my onboard ethernet crap, so im buying an ethernet card. I have the highest speed Charter Cable internet availible in my area 3 Mb/s. Should I go with a 10/100/1000 or just a 10/100.

Well, since your connection is 3Mb/sec. you can go with 10Mb/sec.

However, they do not make them any more so any card will be good.

Agreed! Just buy the cheapest you can find, although I would stick to a name brand. I recently bought a Netgear nic at Best Buy for $15 bucks.
