I can buy the system now or in a few weeks. With releases such as the Radeon 9700, nforce2, and Intel 2.8GHZ right around the corner, some prices might fall...Which parts will be cheaper if I wait:

Newegg.com Parts:

Artec 40x12x48 CD-RW $63
Leadtek Winfast 250A Gf4 4400 128MB + TV $223
512MB Corsair XMS pc3200 RAM $175
Floppy drive $9
Lite-On 16x DVD ROM $38

GoogleGear.com Parts:
Samsung Samtron 96BDF 19in Flat CRT Monitor Retail $209.00
Intel 2.26GHZ Northwood $246.00

MPCparts.com
Lian-Li PC-65 USB ATX Mid Tower (Silver) Aluminum 12 Drive Bays 4 Cooling Fans (Clear Side Window) $122
Red Cold Cathode Light Kit, Complete $31

If you think any of these things can be had cheaper in a couple of weeks or if you can suggest a reliable merchant where something is already cheaper. please give me your thoughts...

All of them. The best time to purchase computer hardware is always after you've done it. But keep waiting, and you'll never upgrade, because something better is always just around the corner. The prices fluctuate greatly.

i dont know much about artec drives but I do know about Lite on and they are really good. I would get a lite on instead of the artec 40x cdrw. I think the P4, GF4400 and the RAM will drop a lot in the upcoming months. This is cause the R300 coming out, faster P4s, and PC3200 becoming more common.

Lite on CDRWs do run great, ive had some bad experiances with artec on the other hand, few CDroms, and recently 2 bad CDRWs (24x)

Go ahead and get the RAM now....prices are about to skyrocket again for a few months.
As for the video card I would wait maybe a month to see if the new ATI card will cause some prices to shift downward and also the processor.

That's exactly what I was thinking but I remember what happened last time someone around here said RAM prices were about to shoot up! :D

I would recommend getting the Samsung 900NF from Dell for only $298 shipped. Check the Hot Deals forum for info. Also, if you get the 32x Lite-On you can flash its firmware and have it run at 48x if you are confident doing this. In general, I think CPU and RAM prices are most volatile, while monitors are least.

I think you can do better with those Dell's Lite-on deals or if you don' t mind waiting for rebates, the TDK deals. Also, i heard Asus burners aren't too shabby. But those Dell's deals on the Lite-on are pretty hard to beat.

You might want to stock up on floppy drives, those are hard to predict. Fry's Electronics keeps changing their prices on them, one week its 11.99 and the next is 7.99, go figure. ;)

hmm....Lite-on is 5 bucks more so I suppose I could just go with that...

The Samsung 900NF will cost me an extra 100 bucks. Why is it worth it?

Does the gf4 4400 have anywhere left to drop. It seems pretty cheap...

@$223 it could alway be cheaper especially when th 9700 comes out. I can see nvidia chipsets dropping in price mostly the 440 and 4600s.

Your eyes wil probably hate you for it, if you get that monitor. The monitor is the one thing you should really spend on, after all, its your primary visual interface with the computer and you will likely be staring at it for hours every day. The Samsung 900NF is a *very* nice monitor, and $298 shipped is a price that can't be beat. If I had an extra $298, I'd be all over it :) About the only thing better than a Samsun 900NF is a Sony Trinitron.
