I want to get a new system around christmas, thinking of the Asus or Gigabyte GB Mb, 2x256 Corsair XMS3200C2.......

So which P4 would be best to overclock in the price/performance ratio? I read that I need a high FSB for GB Mbs to be best.....

I could afford up to a 2,4 Mhz not more.
I allready got an Innovatek water cooling set for it.....

Thanks!

My first choice would be the 2.26 with a sSpec no. SL6DU (Retail and OEM versions) or SL6EE (Retail only.) Second is the 2.4B w/ sSpec no. SL6EF (Retail and OEM versions) or SL6DV (Retail only.) The 1.8A would be my 3rd choice.

One way to get a cpu with these steppings would be to go to a local vendor and ask them if you could look throught their OEM chips. The sSpec no. represents the C1 stepping for the Northwoods core. I don't see any C1 1.8A's at intel.com. Good luck with your new system. Peace.

Indeed. The 2.4B with C1 is better than a 2.4 with C1.

At atacom.com there's a pentium4 northwood that's garaunteed to be C1 - the 2.4B referred to in my orginal post. That is the only pentium4 northwood that I am aware of that is garaunteed to be C1.

Thanks again! Thats one clear answer). So I am prolly trying to get a 2,4B C1 for my AsusP4G8X board. Althought it will not be that simple to get a C1 P4, since I ive in central europe(

Whatever chip you can get to go the highest fsb, simple as that I've got a 1.6a that does 182fsb or 2.9ghz, Then my 2.8 does 178fsb max.

You can still get a bum chip no matter what you order. I've had a c1 stepping 2.6 that wouldnt go over 2.85, no matter how many volts or sub zero temps.

Overclocking is 2% skill and some volts, and 98% $$$$ to blow.

The best possible would be 2.26B C1 stepping, since it only has a 17 multiplier. There will be no 1.6A C1 steppings, since they are no longer producing 1.6As.
