Got Asus P4R800-VM for it's price, $40 refurbished from newegg. It comes with a decent video chip if not great.

Which CPU shall I get to make most use out of it? P4 2.4A, 2.4B or just a 2.0A?

Any suggestions? or other mobo gives better OC perfermance with the same ATI chip set?

thanks a bunch!!

Your motherboard support 800mhz FSB (200*4). Go with a P4C (800mhz)....not an A (400) or B (533). I currently am overclocking my 2.8C to 3.5ghz. The 2.4C's will overclock to 3.2-3.4. Don't know how well that particular MB overclocks, but still go with a P4C.

Nope, as far as I know the MB is very strict on OC. I got it for it's integrated video card (Redeon 9200 based). Also, I only have 2 stick of 512MB PC2700 memory and only 300W power :(

but still many thanks for the reply!

you should get 2.8C since you have the 865 chipset right? Then overclock it and apply the ratios for the ram like 5:4 or 3:2. For intel running the ram with ratios but at tight timings does not hinder performance like it does on the AMD system. So have no fear. Also your ram might overclock slightly to say 180mhz (360 effective) so it's not so bad.

2.8E is on sale right now and I heard that it overclocks pretty well even though it does run hot.

I suggest one of those mobile celerons that Karaktu is selling for $53 with hs/fan. Twice the L2 cache as a desktop celeron. 16x multiplier @ 166 is 2656mhz; faster if you have better memory. I have a mobile P4 that is running 2.9ghz @ 240 FSB right now (from ebay = $71.50)
