Which P4 proc would you go with?

I am looking at a couple different options. I want the highest oc'able speed I can obtain. (Idealy shooting for well over 2.6 Ghz)

I am considering the following procs:

1.6a
1.8a
2.0a
2.4B

Which would you guys go with? I can afford any of them right now, but the 2.4B is kinda looking grim simply because I would have to crank my fsb higher than my ram could possibly handle.

I will be using Samsung PC2700 (Bought for $85 from Newegg). I will also be investing in (probably, not sure yet) an Asus P4S533 mobo to accompany this.

I would suggest that you go with the Asus P4B533 for better ocing results.

I kinda like the 2.4B myself. It really dosn't cost that much more once you get to 2.GHz. So I say 1.6a or 2.4b. I think you will be able to get more outa the 2,4B (with less effort) and ofcorse your fsb will be a lot higher than the 1.6a will ever reach.

1.8A

My feeling is that you buy the processor at the speed you're willing to run at without overclocking. Then you see what kind of speed you can run it at. Of course, I had no problem at all putting it on a 133 bus and getting 2.4.

I would go with the 2.4a. You should be able to get 2.8 air cooled. Hte 2.4b would force a higher FSB and that could cause other problems.

My humble opinion. BTW, I have tried all of those.

I vote for the 1.6a mainly because of the cheaper initial investment and highly possible OC... Also that makes for a good way to sample the water so to speak for P4`s and at a resonable cost... 😉

Your ram should run very nice even at 166fsb... 🙂
