Which P4 motherboard?

A friend of mine is looking for a P4 motherboard that takes SDRAM. It must be SDRAM because he has about 2gigs laying around. What's a good board?

I suggest your friend sell his sdram in the local paper and switch to ddram or rambus for his P4. I use the epox 4sda+ with regular pc2100 memory, and it runs well at 138 fsb. Sdram will cut the P4 performance by about 25%.

SDRAM prices are high enough...! Selling it would be a good budget breath.....Go for DDR if u care for overclocking as well.....

Hi AMD,
Take a look at these.
Gigabyte GA-8SDX-3 DIMM slots...Sis 645
Shuttle AV-41 -3 DIMM slots...P4X266

I've been looking too, but now I am going with an EPOX 4SDA DDR board. Maybe🙂
If you friend needs more than 3 Dimm slots he has got some tough choices to make. There aren't any.
Hope this helps you. IMHO if he's a gamer get the ddr.

Just deals has a Tyan i845 board for about $63, which should work ok with sdram, but have little or no overclocking abilities. Check for other brands if you're into overclocking. If you haven't got your P4 yet, I recommend the 1.6a ($139 at newegg).

As alreadry suggested, I would go with the Tyan i845 (S2090). In the $63-$75 range, you get a mobo that can use SDRAM and a standard ATX power supply power plug. High quality at a great price!

Hi,
i am trying to build P4 1.6A and i had a few choices in the motherboard selection. Could you guys tell me which one to go with: EPOX EP4SDA+ only cos it has raid and lan built on, DFI WT70-EC uses i850 but cannot find the specs *Need more info about this website, DFI NT-70SC also using i850 but w/o lan or raid. I dunno think i will need raid but lan i could use. I was also thinking about ECS P4S5A and ASUS P4S333 but for what i can spend if i can geta decent motherboard that be great. I loved Soyo P4S i wish i could afford. Its a rock.

I cannot recommend Shuttle, even mine (AB30) seems work fine.

They do not provide support, emails sent to different "support" addresses get no answer at all. And their manual is not clear either.

I think the Asus P4B is a really good SDR P4 motherboard. I've heard its really stable and a great overclocker. Make sure you get a Northwood (512k cache) P4.

I also plan an upgrade to P4 and also will use my 640 MB of SDRAM and
I think I will buy me the Intel D845WN or there should be also a good
choice GigaByte GA-8IDXH but I prefer the Intel solution more ;-)
