Which OS guys??

I have Win98 2nd edition, ME and XP to choose from. Which is best for gaming Everquest, Unreal, Quake etc..

I'd have to say XP would be your best choice. However you play Everquest? I tried that game, drowned and didn't log back in. I've played Ultima On-line for 3 yrs though. It isn't as graphics intensive as Everquest but its more my style anyways. Oh, back on topic, XP Pro, def not home.

Yep XP Pro is the best choice,no problems for me in gaming.

Between those OS choices, XP is the clear winner; however, I prefer Win2K to any of them.

I guess I should also point out that on my main system I stick to Win2k and only run XP on my secondary...

Well actually XP is part of the NT family while 98/ME are parts of the 9x family(or DOS /w builtin GUI family perhaps), so version numbers dont compare too well.
And XP is 5.1 of the NT family, 2K is 5.0 🙂

You'll find some of the 9x OS's to be a tad faster but you'll need a benchmark to tell the difference (naked eye won't) The NT OS's are nice and stable, but NT itself suxors for games mostly.

your right, I am comparing a NT based OS to a 9x based OS, however if you note that the kernel of all the 9x OS's are in version 4 and than compare them to NT 4 it is no contest, and that's where I was going with that.
