Im trying to decide which online trader to open an account with. Im trying to start with as little as possible (500 for now), but have only found one or two places that allow that.

ScottTrade

$7 trades
$500 minimum to open an account.

Thanks for any advice, im still looking around on the web.

Ameritrade.. I'm a frequent trader on their Apex program for the past year and a half and have not had any major problems. Great customer service....but that could be coz I'm Apex.

Scottrade. Lowest minimum I could find ($500). Lowest commision on listed stock I could find ($7). Local office in my city. I like the thought of if something goes funny I can walk in and bitch. No account minimum after inception (Thus, if you lose $495 and only have 5 bucks, you dont have to re-up to 500).

Have had no problems whatsoever (Other then in my stock picks on occasion). VERY happy with them, and the people in the local office are friendly enough. Plus you can set up check pay so you write E-checks for deposits. My one gripe with Scottrade is additional fund deposits must be at least $100. Not really a problem, but its nice when you have an extra 50 bucks or something to drop it in and I cant due to the minimum deposit.

So, I would recommend them. Although, I dont think you can really find a bad online trader as long as you stick with the major well known ones out there. But, the minimum to open, transaction fee and local office all added up to me going with Scottrade.

In fact, I have the Streaming Quote up right now. 2 holdings up .18, 1 up .03 and one down .06. Not a bad morning.

Another Ameritrader here, they are $11 a trade I believe now, but with a new account your first 20 or so trades are free. I've had no problems with them, and their news about your stocks is pretty decent.
