Which one would you keep?

Iv been thinking about selling parts of my 2nd system in a effort to upgrade my main rig to a socket 754 system.

But I wanted to know what vid card should I keep for my 2nd system which will end up getting parts from my main rig when I do upgrade.

Keep a AGP 4x Geforce3 or PCI Geforce FX 5200? For the most part the 2nd system wont be used for games if at all. I have tried looking for reviews that compare the two in games but I can only find ones comparing GF3 TI series cards and mine is not a TI.

This is ugly, I decided to brake down and run some tests and switch cards around....

GL Excess

FX 5200 = 3400
GF3 = 6100

I think the 5200 should be outlawed! I didnt think it was that bad, I knew a GF4 could beat it but even a GF3!

Plus there's still people who need PCI video and it's getting hard to find - just a guess but you may get as much cash for the 5200 as for the GF3 if you sell it.

May I ask where your coming up with it being 64 bit?

That is the memory bandwidth - 64-bit. GF3 like all top-end GeForces from GF1 through 5 (except the 5900's) is 128-bit memory bandwidth.

It has a lot to do with the fact that the 5200 is PCI. Not to mention that the 5200 already sucks.

The FX5200 is the Celeron of video cards.

Nobody who has one wants to admit it can possibly suck THAT bad. Then they upgrade to something that costs less than they paid for what they have and are like "OMG, it DOES suck THAT bad"

Let me tell you this: even though the GeForce FX 5200 sucks I'd gladly buy one for my parent's 466MHz Celeron HP computer that has Intel 'Extremely Slow' Graphics. Anything's better than that, eh?🙂

Except maybe S3's Unichrome. 😛

Keep both. You won't really get anything substantial for either. The GF3 is faster, but the 5200 is PCI, which is a bonus, especially if you flash video cards. If anything, I would probably keep the 5200. You can get 4200's for like $60, so the GF3 has no real use except for being faster than the 5200, but there are lots of cards that you can get for cheap that are faster than the GF3.

The geforce 3 and geforce 3 ti series of cards also beat the gf4 mx series.

My GeForce 2 Ti keeps up (and occasionally beats) with my buddy's gf4 mx 440. Granted his is PCI, mine is AGP4X but still!
