Which one would you choose?

I don't want to spend more than $1500 so I had kinda narrowed it down to a 46" 5 Series but I'm not sure if it's better to get a 6 Series 40" (unless there are other brand 42" 120Hz models that offer similar PQ/reliability).

Viewing area is about 8.5 feet. Kids mostly watch Pixar/animation, I primarily watch sports. We have TW Cable so we have a total of 10 HD channels. We have a Wii for the tv but the 360 is primarily used on my computer. I may consider a PS3 for BD but I have one of those WD thingies that lets me use my BD rips.

LN46A650 is $1499 at Amazon right now.

Definitely go bigger. And since the 650 46" is right at the edge of your price range, then it's a win-win deal.

The only negative on the 650 over the 550 is that it has a high gloss finish on the screen. If you have lots of light sources in the room you will get more glare on it than the 550. This can be resolved by getting the 630. It has the same "guts" as the 650 but has a matte finish screen like the 550.

thanks, I've never purchased a big-ticket item from Amazon. I'll have to look at the shipping costs and return policy/procedure; that's the main reason I've never looked at prices beyond a local b&m.

Today was actually one of the first times I *haven't* seen free shipping on big screen TV's from Amazon. My sister had a 46" 550 delivered to her apartment without any issues. There have been a number of people on this board that have bought and shipped through Amazon without any issues I've seen as well.

You can wait around for them to include free shipping or if you don't wait, the shipping costs likely will equal out to what sales tax would be buying local.

Huh? Amazon IS free shipping right now -- and even free White Glove delivery!

Note that the matte-finish A630 is $100 cheaper.

D'oh! I missed the big "FREE WHITE GLOVE SHIPPING" box right under the price link.

I'm in the exact same boat! I've been trying to decide between the 630 and 650 for the last couple of days as well. I went to best buy yesterday, and I was very impressed with the 630! The matte finish looked great.

You might have seen these links, but I thought I'd share anyway.

PS3 for $249.99 with a sony card.

Check out B&H Photo and also Adorama for TV prices. I've been toying with the idea of Panasonic plasma, and both those places have the best prices over anything else I've found, including amazon and also the big box chains during their black friday events. Many things have the free shipping, and both of these stores (primarily camera stores) have stellar reputations. They are both kind of like the Newegg of camera places.

Of course not everything will always be cheaper there, the LN46A650 mentioned above is not (that Amazon price is excellent). But they are two good stores that frequently beat out the others, depending on which brand & model you're looking for.
