I am upgrading my system and need an new video card. I am torn between the original Geforce 3 for about $230 or the Geforce 3 Ti200 for about $180.00 The brand I am thinking of getting is the Gainward Cardexpert
Is it worth spending the extra $50 for an older card ?

System
WindowsXP
512 ram
P3 850

Thanks to all

It's not really an older card, the GeForce3 Ti200 is just clocked lower than the GeForce3. The performance of the GF3 is about 10% higher than that of the GF3 Ti200... it's up to you to decide whether that's worth the extra $50.

Many of the GF3 Ti200s I've seen are overclocking much higher than stock GF3 speeds, some even overclocking as far as a GF3 would go. I suggest getting a GF3 Ti200 and saving the $50.

People are fooled by the core/clock speed of the Geforce3 ti200, regular Geforce3, and Geforce ti500. A ti200 has 6.4gb/sec memory bandwidth, GF3 reg has 7.36GB/Sec. memory bandwidth, and the Ti500 has 8.0GB/Sec. What does this mean? A ti200 overclocked to GF3 reg specs will not perform as well since the memory bandwidth is less. It would take a higher overclock to perform with a regular GF3. Same goes for the GF3 reaching TI500 performance. The GF3 probably is still the best performance card since it's mem bandwidth is not that far away from a GF3 Ti500. So if your indecisive and want the best performance without money as a factor, get a Gf3 which can overclock past GF3 ti500 specs sometimes which equals better performance. If money is a factor, you would not be disappointed by a TI200. Ti 500 is not worth the extra money IMO.

Does your Gainward come with ramsinks? Any idea if any of the Gainward GF3 Ti200 cards don't have ramsinks? I need to know cuz the site I'm ordering it from shows a picture of the card without the sinks and I want to get the card ASAP.

the GF3 it200 from bestbuy! it was only $99! too bad i missed it:(

are the GF3-ti200's more OC'able than the orginal GF3's? if you check out the ti200 post about OCing, they hit some pretty high numbers there
