Which one to buy? 17" or 19" LCD?

Folks,

First of all, I'd like to thank for the great LCD buyer's guide. Nice work, xtknight!

I was digging around, since I'm planning to buy one fo those, and after reading the guide, I wonder: concerning samsung 740/750b and 940/950b, what is the advantage of buying a 19" one, since both have the same resolution (1280x1024)? Wouldnt it be simply "stretching" the same amount of pixels, an the images getting worse due to bigger pixels and grains?

From my understanding and I am no Xknight :p is that it stretches the pixels and pixel pitch really comes into play. The higher the number is the worse it looks apparently.

Thanks for the compliments..

Yeah the 19" will simply have bigger pixels as it has the same resolution as the 17". This is useful if you need bigger text without messing with quirky software settings. Also more advancements have gone into 19" than the 17" monitors (there are some 19" using the high-contrast MVA/PVA panels).

I see, but do these improvements go beyond panel type? I am looking into samsung 750b and 950b. Both have a TN panel, according to your guide! It means I would have no advantage at all, buying the 950b...

That's correct, there really is nothing else, if you don't want bigger text. Where do you see the Samsung 50B series though?

That's odd... how come would they care making a product that does exactly what a cheaper one could do? I looks like a 2" waste to me.

This series is produced and sold (guess) all over south america; they pledge it to be the 40b series successor:

If there wasn't that huge of a price difference I'd go for the bigger screen. Videos look better on a larger screen and text is bigger - for people w/o good eyesight like myself. My momma told me that would happen...

The price difference is about 25%. How can the video performace be any better, if the pixels - and the space among them - are bigger?
