Which one--> Sound Blaster Live! Value PCI 5.1 or Sound Blaster Live! Value PCI?

I am not sure which sound card to get, the difference in price over here in Canadian is only like 10 bux. I am most likely getting the Altec Lansing ACS54 or ACS56 speakers so Which one--> Sound Blaster Live! Value PCI 5.1 or Sound Blaster Live! Value PCI? The only difference is the 5.1 and I am guessing that since I am only getting 4.1 speakers, I don't need the 5.1 right? I need to get this cleared. thx guys.

You shouldn't need the 5.1 support, but its a newer card, so if the price difference is nominal, get the 5.1. That way your bases are covered for future upgrades.

Also, I'm not sure the Value (not the value 5.1) has a digital output, if that makes a difference.

The Value doesnt have digital outputs.

I have both.
And I agree, if its only 10bucks, Id get the 5.1.

oem value2/digital has spdif out jack.
oem original value has no spdif out jack.

if you're going to buy a spdif input speakers with DD decoder built-in, any sound card with spdif out jack is fine, you can get DD 5.1 by software dvd player pass thru the ac-3 signal thru spdif to the speakers' built-in DD decoder.

if you're going to buy a 6 ch analog input speakers without DD decoder built-in, you need live 5.1 or any 5.1 sound card, you can get DD 5.1 by software dvd player using software decoding the ac-3 signal to the sound card's 6 ch analog out.
