My point concerns the way that she has handled this from the start. or at least has been reported...

There's your keypoint right there. Should McCain and Palin revealed that Palin's daughter was pregnant when she was announced as the VP candidate on Friday? Possibly. In hindsight, it looks like the wise choice. But it is also possible that they didn't think it appropriate at the time.

However, Palin and McCain had to react because a nut-blogger at Daily Kos posted an out and out smear that Sarah Palin faked her pregnancy to cover up for Bristol. Because of this vicious lie which, for some reason, spread despite being ludicrous, Palin and her family had to reveal that her daughter was pregnant under less than ideal circumstances.

Btw, that nut-blogger at Daily Kos....his post has since disappeared down the memory hole.

really? that's the only source of that?

fucking bloggers.

what's it gonna take to restore the media to the power, and ability to vet sources that it once had?

Yes, really. Trig being Bristol's baby and Sarah covering that up started at Daily Kos and then spread throughout the left-wing blogosphere and was starting to get reported in the MSM. That forced the Palin family to reveal Bristol's actual pregnancy.

I guess, at some point, clarifications will come about. Either way, it will be interesting to see the next move of the McCain/Palin camp. Depends on whether or not they can accurately asses the impact. I do not think there will be any kneejerk decisions, however, the fruition of the strategy should prove to be interesting.

Exactly. People make mistakes and personally I'd be worried if the person was too perfect, it means they haven't really experienced a normal life.

I think Obama was a true gentleman coming out and saying that this was a personal family matter and that it should be off limits to any kind of political attack. Of course, our media isn't nearly isn't heeding what he suggested... I think it's pretty low what they're doing. The poor girl already had to live with all her friends at school knowing, now the whole freaking world knows that she made a mistake and got pregnant.

Honestly, just leave her alone. She's a normal teenager that screwed up.

WEll look. Both camps benefit from this. Obama benefits because this goes directly to strengthen his argument that more needs to be done to prevent unwanted pregnancies. McCain benefits in this way. He said Palin is exactly what the country needs. And he knew about her daughter. So McCain wanted to give America an example of a family where the parents and the children are working hard and putting out.

And as left-wing bloggers make up shit to attempt to smear the Palin family (which, of course, doesn't work and just backfires), right-wing bloggers show that they're no better by accusing Democrats (not left-wingers, but Democrats, and sometimes even Obama himself) of being behind the whole thing. As if the whole left-wing blogosphere is actually controlled by the Democratic party.

:rolleyes; Morons need to get a life, all of them. This is non-news.

Preventing teen pregnancy really is not the federal government's job. But paying to raise the baby afterward really isn't the government's job either, and they do that - so preventing the pregnancy makes that cheaper. Bristol Palin is never going to be a leech on society, so Obama and the government and the rest of the country don't need to worry about her unwanted pregnancy. They want to slow down the breeding of poor people, it's just not politically expedient to say that.

And ask most hardcore right-wingers about it, and they'll probably claim that it was completely justified and true.

Smear campaigns just suck, no matter who they're directed against.

OMG! Logical victory against a religious person who agreed with abstinence only education with decreased availability of contraceptives.
Him: "I find it immoral to have sex before marriage. But, I know that a lot of kids are going to do it anyway. They've been having premarital sex since the beginning of time. But, I feel that making contraceptives available means that I'm giving in and not holding them to the expectations of meeting my moral values."
Me: "I completely agree with you. It's immoral to have sex before marriage. Kids should wait."
Him: " " (He didn't expect me to say that; I used it to completely disarm his moral high ground.)
"And, we both agree that kids are going to have sex anyway, right?"
Him: "Right."
Me: So, that means we both have to choose one of two things: Either we choice to limit contraceptive devices, or we choose to have bastard children born without a father, unwanted teen pregnancies, teens dropping out of school because they can't raise their child and successfully attend school at the same time, children growing up in poverty and unable to break away from the poverty cycle, not to mention the earth's current population is probably unsustainable.

Wow, I can't believe you think that giving them a little piece of latex is the lesser of the two evils, and your actions to withhold education and contraceptive devices clearly leads to choice two. I'm kinda shocked."

I loved the look on his face; it was a look like I just shattered his world.
Ironically, he changed the subject to the college presidents who wanted the drinking age lowered to 18. "Don't you think that's going to just shift where the problem occurs? I think the colleges just don't want to deal with the binge drinking anymore." Me: "Studies have shown that the drinking age doesn't have any significant affect on when teens begin drinking..." and I was off to winning another debate.

I wonder if the father of the baby is being coerced to marry Palin's daughter. State Gov has a lot of power...maybe the young man's father works a state job?

Think about it. What 17 year old in his (or her) right mind wants to get married?

I'm Palin. I just got nominated for the VP slot. It's bad enough my dumb shit daughter got knocked up DESPITE the condoms I gave her...she's got no plans to get married. That would ruin my chances at VP and trash McCains' campaign. I'D be out of a job then! Screw that. /picks up phone <--it's a viable scenario IMO
