The update your refering to, the post sp1 fix for memory allocation issues, isn't available 'generally' yet. Additionally, the circumstances in which the problem manifests itself was badly reported, making it sound as if all machines with SP1 are slow. The truth is the problem was related to a specific private application, the KB article has been updated to reflect this.

So, if your sons machine is running poorly, this in all likelyhood is not the culprit.

Bill, the problem is that we don't have SP1 installed, only the securities updates.

Then the patch you asked about (at least the one I think your asking about) definately does not apply, it only affected SP1 systems.

Oh, I think I was reading the question wrong DOH! Eltano1, are you saying you installed one of the updates and now the machine is slow? As compared to thinking the machine is slow and hearing about the new fix that 'speeds up XP'?

My old friend Osage, how are you? You just hit the nail on the head, that is exactly the article, but I couldn't remember the site (you know, I'm getting old), thanks.
Everything is OK, I decide to go back to school, instead of just getting the MCSE certification, so now I'm going for my Bachelor in Science IT, and then I might go for the MCSE. The think is that I'm leanning toward Networks and Security which I can take classes while in the University.

It was good to see you (I know that you always are around here)

Best regards
