Which one is really WORTH??

Hello

Im deciding which is better to get :
the 6800 PCI-E 256MB
or
6600GT PCI-E

at first i was very sure of buying the 6800 until yesterday i saw This
so now im not sure which one is better to get i need your advices

IMHO, go for the 6800... sure, 256MB of graphics memory isn't exactly critical at the moment, but it will become more necessary as games advance.

Do not go for _any_ non GT card. If youre going to get a 6800 get the GT. If you dont want to spend so much, get the 6600GT. The 6600GT is the best price/preformnace single card solution on the market. Chaintech seems to be the best maker in tests of several 6600GTs, it is faster, overclocks better, runs with less noise and with less heat than most other cards.

Well, as I said a 256MB card is a little more future-proof than a 128 MB one. However, if you're planning on upgrading your gfx card in the next 12-18 months again, then I guess the 6600GT would suit you just fine.

MO is that you're right. Of course it depends upon personal preferences. As long as you do not have larger video ram requirements than 128MB, the 128MB cards will perform just as well.
But turning on primarily AA, changes the picture somewhat. I'm pretty sure those tests were without AA and AF. It used to be that 128MB cards took a hit at AA on 1600X1200. However, I've personally noticed a hit already at 1280X1024 from AA, on FC and source (Bloodlines) with a 128MB card, forcing you down to 1024X768. (Other options highest or close to highest). And I think I've seen a FC benchmark that supports that, BTW.

i would say get the GT. i felt guilty for a day or two after buying mine, but then realized how freakin sweet the card is. with the GT you really won't need an upgrade for a long time.

You mean if the AA/AF are turn on the 6800 can do much better and get higher frame rates right?

eh, sorry for the confusion. the guilt came from the price paid for it. the card itself is awesome. no regrets here.

Uh, I mean that at some point, a 256MB 9800 (or 6600, or 6800) on a demanding game with very high options and AA/AF turned on, will do better than a 128MB 9800. Simply turning off AA, or dropping down to 1024X768 seem to sofar, (I haven't tested this exhaustively) make the cards equal again. Most contemporay games are probably still OK at 1280X1024 on 128MB. But FC, for instance, seem not to be.

I have this card. It is the OCed version of the card that won Anandtech's Gold Editors award. It has worked well for me. It is much faster that the 9800pro I upgraded from, and it won't break the bank. It plays every game out right now and lets you save your money so you can get a faster card down the road when bigger games come out.
